Position Summary

The Director, Technical Services situated within Kellen's Buildings and Materials group, plays a crucial role in guiding the development of standards, codes, and regulations. As a technical representative and resource, the director facilitates association committees, addresses inquiries from members and external sources, and actively engages in standards and regulatory advocacy.

Essential Functions

  • Organize, guide, and facilitate association committees in developing, managing, and advocating for proposals to modify national model codes and standards.
  • Manage and facilitate association committees, creating and communicating documents essential for efficient committee activities, including issues, opportunities, agendas, minutes, and status.
  • Process standards development ballots and approvals, resolving objections and comments as part of the consensus-building standards development process.
  • Collaborate with 3rd party product testing labs on relevant test standards and protocols.
  • Attend and participate in standards, regulatory, and code development activities in-person and virtually, professionally advocating for the association(s).
  • Develop, foster, and preserve working relationships within the codes and standards communities.
  • Write code change proposals and justifications to support positions.
  • Work with related trade associations, allied stakeholders, and other stakeholders, allied or not.
  • Manage regulatory advocacy and issues.
  • Serve as a resource for association members to understand code and regulatory requirements from technical and business perspectives.
  • Research issues to provide input on threats and opportunities from regulatory requirements to clients.
  • Participate on standards and certification committees, coalitions, and stakeholder groups.
Other duties that align with the mission and vision of the company as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Engineering or technical four-year degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 5 years of related association or manufacturing experience.
  • Engineering or product background highly desired.
  • Technical writing ability with an understanding of product design, manufacturing, and testing.
  • Ability to organize and lead technical meetings, facilitate consensus, and maintain excellent organization and record keeping.
  • Ability to represent association interests to national code groups and other external organizations.
  • Ability to use creativity and innovative/strategic thinking to develop consensus, solutions, and strategies.
  • Excellent human relations skills with strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated presentation and speaking skills required for effective communication in various settings.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions, troubleshoot, and respond to challenges.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, with a "Can Do" approach to different and diverse software packages.
