General Summary of Position

Unit Highlights

Nurses on 3 East care for a diverse patient population that includes those with Acquired/Traumatic Brain Injury and Strokes. This 40-bed unit treats patients with Brain & Spinal Cord tumors, Strokes, hemorrhagic and ischemic infarcts, SAH, Anoxic or hypoxic brain injury, Parkinsons Disease, Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, and disorders of the central nervous system, GBS, Tracheostomies etc.

The program is certified by the Center for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and renowned for innovative care through an evidenced- based, multidisciplinary team approach to recovery. Our nurses are specially trained to care for and manage patients with both cognitive and physical impairments, including behavioral and agitation management. Some unique opportunities include CRRN certification, collaboration with the interdisciplinary team (MD, PT, OT, SLP, Case Management etc.) and Agitation Management Skills.

Key Responsibilities

The rehabilitation clinical nurse is a key member of the interdisciplinary team to deliver patient-centered rehabilitation nursing services to individuals with a disability and/or chronic illness to attain and maintain maximum function. The rehabilitation clinical nurse assists patients in adapting to an altered lifestyle, while providing a therapeutic environment for client's and their family's development. The rehabilitation clinical nurse designs and implements treatment strategies based on scientific nursing theory related to self-care and promotes physical, psychosocial, and spiritual health. Rehabilitation Nurses perform in roles as Teachers, Caregivers, Collaborators and Client Advocates. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, you will add Life to Years for the patients you will serve.

Qualifications

  • ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required. If prepared at the associate degree in nursing level, required to enroll in a BSN program within 6 months of hire date and completion within 3 years.

  • Prior Clinical Nursing experience preferred.

  • Active DC RN License and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required.
