Development Team

The Development Team s mission is to ensure that NCYL has thefinancial resources needed to pursue its mission and vision, and touphold NCYL s inclusive, youth-centered, strengths-based, andequity-focused values in all fundraising efforts and activities.NCYL s Development Team is raising $20M+ annually from foundations,government agencies, corporations, law firms, and individuals. Weinspire NCYL supporters and educate them about NCYL s values,impact, and work; we build community and nurture strongrelationships among NCYL board members, staff, alumni, andsupporters through fundraising efforts.

Position

NCYL seeks an experienced fundraiser and grant writer to managea portfolio of foundation and government relationships. Working inclose partnership with program colleagues, executives and boardmembers, the Development Manager will cultivate, solicit, andsteward current and new foundation funders to increase financialsupport for NCYL s core programs and for the organization atlarge.

This is a temporary, full-time, exempt position. The temporaryemployee could be considered for a permanent role after evaluationof team needs and other conditions, including organizational fundsand employee performance.

Essential Functions

  • Manage foundation andgovernment grant proposals by drafting narratives, coordinatingbudgets, editing proposals and reports, and ensuring timelysubmission of high-quality applications
  • Research, identify andcultivate new foundation and government funding opportunities tosupport NCYL s mission
  • Coordinate and trackactions required to move foundation and government fundingprospects through all stages of the cultivationprocess
  • Support Development Teamefforts to uphold and integrate organizational values of diversity,equity, and inclusion in all fundraising-relatedefforts
  • Ensure that grants,reports and other written, funder-facing materials are accurate,compelling and of the highest quality and assist in crafting new,engaging content that communicates our impact and inspires andaligns NCYL staff and funders
  • Skillfully collaboratewith NCYL s Executive Director and Program Directors working acrossyouth rights issue areas, providing them with developmentexpertise, especially as it pertains to prospecting, funderstrategy and communications, funder meeting preparations, andproposal writing
  • Become familiar with theprogrammatic goals and activities of NCYL.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3)years of full-time work experience in non-profit development orphilanthropy
  • Persuasive, compellingcommunication skills, especially in written form
  • Exceptional attention todetail and project management skills
  • Ability to workindependently and manage multiple priorities
  • Experience with MSOffice software suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) or similarapplications
  • Experience successfullyapplying for and receiving significant private foundationgrants
  • Familiarity withSalesforce a plus.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.This position may require some travel.

Salary, Benefits, and Location

This is a temporary, full-time, exempt position. Salary iscompetitive at $111,585.00 annually. A geographic salarydifferential may be applied if the candidate resides somewhereother than the Oakland, CA, Los Angeles, CA, New York City, orWashington, DC metro areas. This means that the salary would bereduced if the candidate resides in an area where the cost of laboris less than that of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Temporary employees are not eligible for any NCYL benefits otherthan those required by law. If hired permanently, NCYL provides arobust benefits package including health, dental, vision, life,generous vacation and sick benefits, flexible spending account,employer contribution to a retirement plan, and short-term andlong-term disability insurance.

Candidates must reside in, or be willing to relocate to,Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts,Maryland, Michigan, New York, Oregon, Virginia, Washington DC, orWisconsin.
