Territory Manager- Maryland


The Carlisle Group has been Retained to conduct a Search in Maryland for Territory Manager. Our client is an A Rated P&C Insurance company. The Maryland Marketing Territory Manager is responsible for the business development and management of assigned territory and agencies within that territory. Development and management will be in alignment with the company s vision, mission, and strategic plan. Through frequent agency visitation, phone/ email contact, and training the Territory Manager will build strong relationships between the Company and agency owners/ principals, producers, and other staff. It is important to maintain links with industry organizations in order to keep the Company informed about regional and local issues including market intelligence. The Territory Manager will collaborate with the Director of Marketing to develop their business plan identifying the strategies, ideas and resources needed to achieve the business development of their assigned state and or/territories.


Essential Duties

  • Utilizes consultative selling and territory management skills to ensure profit, growth, and cooperative business relationships for and with the Company
  • Approximately 70% of the time is in outside contact with agencies in assigned territory
  • Expands agency distribution within assigned territory consistent with Company strategy
  • Prospects and evaluates agencies based on company specific best fit criteria
  • Provides evaluation/recommendation to supervisor for new agency appointments prior to making commitment for appointment
  • Establishes profit, production goals, onboarding training, and U/W visits as needed
  • Develops a working knowledge of each assigned agency s: capacity, capabilities, operating philosophy, key personnel, and top companies
  • Schedules/completes agency and meetings and agency visitation reports within 7 days of a visit
  • Keeps agency personnel engaged and informed about the Company s marketing/underwriting programs, underwriting standards, risk appetite, agency automation, procedures, products, services, rules, rates, and underwriting guidelines
  • Ensures meaningful shelf space for the Company along with sufficient quote flow and close rate metrics for each line of business consistent with Company expectations and agency capabilities
  • Reviews agency experience and production reports to increase profitable production
  • Ensures that all licensed agents are trained and knowledgeable in the Company s products, guidelines, rates, products, systems, and online tools. Provides ongoing training and encouragement to agency personnel as needed
  • Uncovers opportunities for new business to the Company and utilize binding authority
  • Influences underwriting and production results positively by inspecting farms, businesses, properties
  • Performs agency audits to determine proper file documentation
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor s Degree or equivalent business experience required
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in related positions required
  • Willingness to travel frequently and consistently to manage territory and for home office meetings
  • Ability to work remotely from home
  • Consultative selling with proven presentation skills with individuals and groups
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
