The Integrated Energy and Market Analysis department at INL is organized to identify and relate various elements of nuclear technologies and power generation systems in a broadly integrated fashion- achieved by application of expertise in nuclear systems integration, enabling demonstration of nuclear technologies in the context of real-world complexities, and envisioning actions for the productive and balanced use of clean energy solutions while augmenting critical infrastructure.

Integrated Energy systems refers to the coupling of the energy producing system to the distribution and utilization systems. An example would be coupling a nuclear reactor to energy storage systems or chemical production plants and integrating multiple different power sources on the same grid. Market analysis plays an important role in assessing these integrated systems and the utility they bring to coupling them with existing and advanced energy production systems.

We are seeking an exceptional individual to fill our Integrated Energy Systems and Market Analysis Department Manager position.

Responsibilities

* This individual will guide a group of technical professionals to solve complex problems and related issues and will be responsible to provide leadership for a growing group of technical professionals and direct the development of tools to integrate reactor designs with optimized distribution and utilization.

* Technical areas of focus requiring oversight or contribution relate to existing or anticipated program needs of DOE and other customers.

* Working with relationship managers, program managers, the division director, and others, the Department Manager identifies and perpetuates potential new programs at technology interfaces for nuclear systems.

* The Manager also assures mission success in pursuing multi-party collaboration within INL, across the DOE laboratory complex, through strategic partnerships with universities and consultants, and directly with industry stakeholders.

* As a manager in the Reactor Systems Design and Analysis Division, the department manager will also be responsible for the overall human capital management of the department and for creating a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, inclusion, and diversity with focus toward the professional development of staff.

Qualifications

* BS in nuclear/mechanical engineering or related field plus 12 or more years related experience OR advanced degree in electrical/mechanical engineering or related field plus 8 or more years of related experience.

* Related experience may include demonstrating effective technical and leadership skills, including management of technical programs, personnel management, staff recruiting, and developing and implementing strategic plans.

* A strong technical background in several technical areas of department focus: energy production, distribution and utilization; energy market analysis; plant simulation; energy policy; nuclear facility deployment projects; energy regulatory basis; facility site characterization; non-electric applications; coupled energy technologies; energy storage; energy systems modeling and simulation; and nuclear engineering

* Nuclear industry experience is preferred.

* Understanding of advanced modeling technology and artificial intelligence and associated systems is expected.

* This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L clearance; therefore, US citizenship is required.

* Must be able to work in a culturally diverse environment.
