Villa Academy seeks a full-time Computer Science & Technology Teacher to join its team beginning August 20, 2024. This educator will be teaching and further developing our Middle School Computer Science curriculum and Lower School Technology program. This role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate on and further build a Kindergarten through Eighth Grade Technology and Computer Science curriculum rooted in design thinking that inspires and fosters curiosity and creativity.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative educator who embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching practices. They will be excited to be designing student-centered curricula and activities that ignite students' passion for engineering, computer programming, and design. The candidate will delight in working with young learners and their families, be a dedicated problem-solver, and support Villa Academy's commitment to "education of the heart."

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and implement a comprehensive, skill-based Kindergarten through Eighth Grade Technology and Computer Science curriculum, in collaboration with the Lower School Technology Teacher.
  • Teach Fifth through Eighth Grade Computer Science courses rooted in design thinking and inquiry-based pedagogy.
  • Develop and manage the Middle School Makerspace, integrating both high-tech resources (such as 3D printers) and low-tech resources (such as LEGOs, sewing materials, etc.)
  • Contribute to the development of co-curricular activities inspired by the core curriculum, including club offerings like Robotics, Coding, and 3D Building.
  • Commit to the mission, vision, and values of Villa Academy.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Bachelor's degree in education, computer science, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of teaching experience, preferably with Middle School students
  • Experience teaching Computer Science and/or Design Thinking
  • Familiarity with Java, Python, HTML, and CSS.
  • Experience in curriculum development and implementation tailored to makerspace activities, aligning with educational standards while promoting hands-on learning and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive energy and enthusiasm for working in a Preschool through Eighth Grade, faith-based independent school.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional growth, curiosity, cultural humility, and antiracism, as well as an understanding of its critical role in academic excellence and student growth.

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:
Anticipated salary ranges between $51,501.73 - 118,430.02/year, dependent upon education and experience.
