Opportunity: CNC Setup Operator (Lathe and Mill) 1st & 2nd shifts


1st shift: 6:00am to 2:00pm

2nd shift: 6:00am to 2:00pm


Seastrom Manufacturing is looking for an experienced and skilled machinist that is eager to demonstrate and enhance their skills in a precision manufacturing environment. The CNC Setup Operator performs setups and operates CNC machinery with single and/or multiple spindles in a safe manner. Monitors and controls the quality of machining processes by utilizing process control tools such as control charts and statistical process controls.


This position requires the ability to consistently follow processes and schedules independently, with periodic interaction with managers and others. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Read blueprints, drawings, specifications, and shop orders for all manufactured parts (e.g., dimensions, tolerances, inspection, number of parts to be machined and tooling instructions such as cutting speeds, feed rates, depth of cuts, and cutting tools required).
  • Use machine controls to cycle machine through; production operations, set-up, adjusting tool positions, and changing tools. Also, to review machine operating criteria such as cycle time and spindle rpm.
  • Change, position, and secure tools in tool holders by utilizing tool monitoring system and presetting equipment.
  • Perform first piece sample inspection according to the operation control plan. By utilizing qualified measuring devices, the machinist monitors the part dimensions through continuous checking of part features and process control tools (such as SPC).
  • Demonstrate drive and ability to advance in a manufacturing setting.
  • Knowledge of machining tools and procedures.
  • Ability to identify and recommend process improvements leading to cycle time reductions and improved reliability and safety.
  • Load parts into the appropriate machinery, using the best available tooling methods.
  • Understand speeds and feeds, tooling, programs, and operation sequences.
  • Inspect product using precision measuring tools at the prescribed inspection interval during setup and throughout the production process.
  • Verify the expected cycle time on the Job Order with the actual cycle time and take appropriate action if necessary.
  • Monitor machine for unusual conditions.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience with CNC setup operations.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to characterize material machinability, tool handling, tool cutter presentation, and selection of appropriate coolants for CNC.
  • Associate/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in machining. Intermediate technical certification preferred.
  • The ability to read, write and speak the English language with comprehension skills sufficient to understand safety standards and job performance expectations.
  • Above average ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to interpret instructions which may be furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; use hands to feel, handle, or grab; reach, pull, push, and lift with hands and arms; walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and reach. Some sitting may be required.
  • The employee is frequently required to lift 10 pounds and/or move 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to wear safety-toe shoes/boots and other personal protective equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, oils, or other cutting fluids.
  • The noise level in the environment is loud.
