Job Summary
Performsbuilding repair, renovation, and maintenance in University buildings andstructures to include carpentry work, painting, and routine electrical andmechanical work. Take the lead on small to medium work orders task,installation, carpentry and repair projects.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate with othertrades, takes the lead as directed and/or perform carpentry operations toinclude the construction of buildings, areas, signs, equipment furnitureand hanging of wall panels and other decorative wall covering inaccordance to blue prints and instructions. Builds, repairs, paint andinstalls counters, cabinets, benches, walls, partitions, floors, doors,and building framework and trim.
  2. Coordinate with othertrades, takes the lead as directed and/or performs all types of repairsconstruction including woodwork, cabinet work, furniture work, painting,metal work, hardware installation and adjustment, door hanging, windowrepair and other jobs incidental to maintenance to buildings and neededimprovements. Fabricates structural components, casework, mechanical, andelectrical components from field measurements.
  3. Coordinate with othertrades, takes the lead as directed and/or performs construction projectssuch as, grading, setting metal and wood forms, pouring concrete forcurbs, sidewalk slabs and drives and other projects. Performs minor roofrepairs, masonry repair, and concrete work.
  4. Perform the loading andunloading of furniture and equipment from previous locations to its newdesignated destination. Responsible for inventory management of thecarpentry and paint shops.
  5. Constructs/installs andrepairs building and utility systems working from blueprints and/or verbalinstructions. Performs routine planned maintenance and on-demand workorders generated from the Physical Plant computerized maintenancemanagement system (CMMS) and other work as required.
  6. Serves as a member of thePhysical Plant Essential Personnel and as directed by the Director ofPhysical Plant participates in pre-emergency preparations and emergencyrecovery efforts and performs additional duties as assigned.
  7. Performs otherduties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

High SchoolDiploma or General Education Degree (GED). Three years carpentry, painting,electrical and mechanical experience, facility repair and maintenance or otherrelated work experience. Driver's License required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to attend education and training programs as appropriate to increase awareness and understanding.
  • Ability to operate personal computer with a general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the internet.
  • Ability to drive a forklift, tractor and/or loader.
  • Ability to operate mowers, tractors and loaders.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends when required.
  • Skilled in the use of power and hand tools.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, commercial painting, and carpentry trades.
  • Ability to lift andmanipulate heavy objects.


Preferred Qualifications

Associate's Degree or equivalent from two-yearCollege or technical school or five years related experience and/or training;or equivalent combination of education and experience.
