Development Coordinator


Job Details

The Development Coordinator will work closely with the Development Manager to meet the yearly development goals. The Development Coordinator will have a concentration in overseeing activities related to the annual fund, special events, and donor stewardship. This position will also be responsible for effective and efficient uses of resources and the donor management system to measure and achieve development goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Donation Entry and Gift Acknowledgement (70%):

  • Serve as an initial point of contact for members, donors, and stakeholders
  • Oversee accurate gift processing standards, including timely gift entry and acknowledgement and integrity of data
  • Enter development transactions and ensure accuracy with finance records
  • Effectively utilize the donor tracking database through accurate entry, advanced reports, and integrated communication options
  • Recommend development process modifications
  • As workload allows, grow a small portfolio of individual donors

Annual Fund (20%):
  • Assist in implementing an annual strategy for cultivating and stewarding donors through direct mail, social media, events, targeted appeals, matching gifts, email, and other innovative techniques that can attract a diverse range of donors
  • Remain up to date on the latest fundraising techniques to attract new donors and adopt new practices to further the agency s fundraising goals
  • Work closely with the Manager, Individual Giving to leverage the power of social media, internet presence, printed materials, and technology use to cross promote agency messaging
  • Provide administrative support as needed for other members of the Development Team for high priority projects

Administrative Support and Database Administration (10%)
  • Maintain development files for key stakeholders
  • Set parameters and run weekly, monthly, annual, and on-demand reports.
  • Update donor and contact records regularly to maintain accuracy of information in database.
  • Ensure development data integrity and accuracy of reports.
  • Provide support for developing marketing content as needed

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience Required:
  • Bachelor s degree in business, communications, marketing or related field orientation
  • 1-2 Years of related experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • Salesforce or other CRM administration experience or ability to build competency quickly
  • Ability to manage data entry efficiently and accurately
  • Strong customer service orientation and skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to consistently attend to details and meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to consistently handle telephone and email requests in a courteous and efficient manner
  • Ability and commitment to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Technical support, analytical, and problem-solving skills, or ability to develop them
  • Ability to deploy sound judgment, manage multiple priorities, and willingness to exert influence as appropriate
  • Ability to select and use effective approaches to choose a course of action and develop appropriate solutions
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office product suites (especially Excel and PowerPoint) and knowledge or ability to learn other computer-based systems
  • Ability to work on independent projects and as a member of a team
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Works out of AFA s headquarters in Arlington, VA
  • Office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, subject to modification based on the needs of each program or site
  • Operates in a professional office environment with travel to local offices, community partners, and events
Physical Demands:
The position requires sedentary work (sitting most of the time with no adverse environmental exposure) and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The position also includes the following physical requirements:
  • Movement. The employee in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc
  • The employee in this position needs to be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a copy machine and printer
  • The employee is required to communicate and hold verbal conversations with others by means of the spoken word. Employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
