The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Physician Assistant for clinical care will assist the Breast Imaging Physicians in the triaging of patients receiving Breast Imaging services including but not limited to diagnostic and biopsy studies. The Physician Assistant will participate in procedures both as an assistant and the primary operator.

Responsibilities

* Reporting to the Division Chief for Breast Imaging, the Physician Assistant will be responsible for assisting Radiologists in the clinical care of patients.

* Responsible for patient care regarding patient management, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ordering of pertinent tests.

* Writes accurately and in timely manner into patient records for all pertinent care, status changes, orders, progress notes and procedure notes.

* Demonstrates ability to work and communicate effectively with medical teams and other associated staffing; Provides consultation to nursing and ancillary medical teams and staff of patient condition and plan of care.

* Reviews and triage screening imaging studies as needed for additional clinical follow up. In conjunction with Mammography Supervisor coordinate follow up care as determined by clinical needs.

* Assesses patient health by interview and by obtaining and/or updating medical history. Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records

* Works collaboratively with supervising physician(s) and care team in a timely manner with respect, and with the goals of patient-centered safety and quality as a priority.

* Knowledge and adherence of clinical and institutional policy and procedure related to clinical practice and practice site operations.

* Assist physicians during performance of complex radiological procedures.

* Assists in the pre- and post-procedural care of patients undergoing radiological procedures. Communicates assessment, treatment and care planning to patient, families and designated caretakers in effective and compassionate manner. Obtains informed consent as required.

* Work with Breast Surgery to develop a system to manage and appropriately triage outside and second opinion reads.

* Assist with reviewing outside studies uploaded for review, ensuring completeness prior to Radiologist review.

* Performs follow up for pathology results and referrals, document follow up in patient's chart.

* Advises the medical service of patients with other medical conditions requiring internal medicine or subspecialty consultation. These patients will have been identified by the attending radiologist.

* Promotes self-learning and maintenance of continued medical education (CME) requirements for board certification and practice of evidenced-based medicine.

* Promotes self-development and growth as a clinical leader with expertise in designated clinical area.

* Participates in interdisciplinary meetings to improve patient care, quality, safety and throughput.

* Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physician Assistant studies plus five years of experience

* Current NYS licensure

* NCCPA certification

* DEA required
