Reports to: Distribution Center Manager*subject to change based on operational needs, and may include being required to work during school closingsOverview:Founded in 1647, Boston Public Schools (BPS) is the oldest public school district in the country. With approximately 57,000 students from over 114 different countries, nearly 8,000 employees, and an annual budget of $973 million, BPS is the largest district in Massachusetts and one of the most diverse as well. Currently BPS has 128 schools utilizing three food service delivery models. Forty six (46) schools have full service kitchens with full time cafeteria managers and subordinate staff. Seventy eight (78) schools are satellite kitchen sites receiving meals from an outside vendor, contracted by BPS. In the 2017-2018 school year four schools participated in a pilot program introducing a new model called "My Way Caf ." In the 2018-2019 school year this pilot model will be expanded to an additional 26 schools. The My Way Cafe model is supported by a Central Distribution Center.Department Facts: Mission: offer students safe, wholesome, nutritious, enjoyable meals to fuel academic excellenceMeals served: Approximately 23,500 breakfasts and 35,600 lunches served daily; approximately -8,000 after-school meals served daily; 22,000 summer mealsBPS utilizes Community Eligibility Provision (CEP); which enables the district to provide free meals to all Boston studentsJob Responsibilities:Receive and log all incoming orders and dry goods Operate an electric pallet jack or forklift to transport productBreakdown product into separate pallets; tag pallets for storage Store item in designated cold and dry storageSelect and transport bulk items for packing and distributionLoad trucks for distribution in accordance with Distribution Center plan Inspect all products to ensure they are meeting guidelines for quality and temperatureTrack vendor and purchasing dates Delivers food and non-food items; as neededMaintain sanitation of distribution bins and delivery trucks Consistently maintain product quality and integrityEnsure adherence to food safety and facility safetyPerform quality control checks to ensure standards are metTake corrective action, as necessary on timely basis and in accordance with Food & Nutrition Services standards, communicating inferior products or proceduresAble to work in team oriented environmentResponsible for the sanitation and maintenance of work, storage, break areas and trucksFollow all safety and sanitation standards of HACCP, OSHA and the City of Boston. Completes all other duties, as assigned Required Qualifications:Education: high school/GED, including basic computer skillsValid Massachusetts drivers license with good recordValid Forklift License/CertificationFood Handler CertificationEnglish language proficiency (written and verbal)2 - 5 years of work experience, in warehouseBasic knowledge of shipping and receiving practicesStrong attention to detail and ability to follow directionsAbility to calculate basic mathFlexible about tasks and able to multi-task and maintain high a productivity levelStrong ability to work collaboratively and work with a range of fellow workers Physical: Walking, standing, reaching above shoulder level, stooping, lifting, carrying, bending and pivotingAbility to lift up to 50 poundsCapable of sitting, standing, walking for extended periods of timeCapable of working full day in refrigerated environment - must be able to work in a Multi-temp warehouse ranging from sub-zero to the ambient temperature of the outdoors for the entire shift without restrictions Preferred Qualifications:Valid CDL LicenseServ-Safe Certification (Managers)5+ years of work experience, in warehouseHydraulic lift equipment experienceCertified knowledge of shipping and receiving practicesProficiency in inventory software, databases and systemsFamiliarity with modern warehousing practices and methodsGood organizational and time management skillsSpanish LanguageTerms: (Grade 2, Step 1)City of Boston Residency requiredBargaining Unit: AFSCMESchedule: September 1 to August 31*Hours: 6:00 am to 2:00pm**subject to change based on operational needs, and may include being required to work during school closings
